Red Horner
Reginald Horner was born on May 29, 1909 in Lyden, Ontario. He played junior hockey for the Toronto Marlboros of the Ontario Hockey
Association (OHA) before moving up to the big club. He got his break in 1928 joining the Maple Leafs as a defenseman. The 6'1" Horner
was a tough player and one of the most effective hockey enforcers of his time. He was also a very good defenseman, moving the puck
quickly out of his zone with precise tape-to-tape passes. Red Horner had a successful 12 year pro-hockey career with the Toronto
Maple Leafs and retired from the game in 1940 with 1,264 penalty minutes. He also served as the team captain from 1938-40. After
retiring from the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1940, Red was an NHL linesman for two years and later spent a good part of his life being an
executive in the coal industry. Red Horner was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1965 and passed away in April of 2005.
