Lanny McDonald

Lanny McDonald was born on February 15, 1953 in Hanna, Alberta. He played his junior hockey with the Calgary Centennials and Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Canadian Hockey League (WCHL). In 1973, the right winger was drafted in the first round, #4 overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs. He joined the big club for the 1973-74 season and scored 30 points in 70 regular season games. Best known for his skating ability, great shot, toughness and big red moustache - Lanny continued to progress with the Maple Leafs and had his breakout season in 1975-76 scoring 93 points. Near the end of 1979, he was traded to the Colorado Rockies along with teammate Joel Quenneville for Pat Hickey and Wilf Paiement.

His career continued to progress in Colorado and later on he got a chance to go back home to Alberta with the Calgary Flames. Points wise his best season was in 1982-83 when Lanny McDonald scored a whoppin 66 goals and 32 assists for 98 points for the Flames. He won the Stanley Cup with the Calgary Flames in 1989 and retired from hockey on that high note. Over his career, Lanny also won the Bill Masterton Award in 1983 and the King Clancy Trophy in 1988. He was inducted in the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992. Lanny McDonald currently lives outside of Calgary, Alberta and continues to be a fan favourite in Toronto.
